Wedding Proposal

On January 9th our stable had a booking for a very unique trail ride.
The trail ride was for Leigh and his girlfriend Sarah.
He had much more planned than just surprising Sarah with the trail ride though,
Leigh was going to ask her to be his partner for life. During an earlier visit to our farm,
Leigh and I choreographed a plan that would make the day special for both of them.
January 9th turned out to be a cool, blustery day with every type of precipitation
possible, but that didn't dampen his spirits.  Sarah loves horses and he knew she would be glad to ride in any weather. Little did she know what a ride it would be!
When they arrived at the farm we went through our normal spiel getting everyone set for the trail ride.  Leigh made an excuse to go back to the truck to get his camera. At this time
I made the suggestion to Jaclyn, one of our co-op students, that maybe we should get another horse for Leigh from the barn. I made them believe that the horse we had picked out for him out didn't like the wind.  As he went to the truck for his camera, he quickly
went to a room and changed into a wonderful Scottish outfit. We already had additional horses tacked up and waiting in the barn. As soon as Leigh was changed he and Jaclyn rode ahead up the trail while Sarah and I waited for them in the arena.  Our other co-op student, Allison, came to the arena and said that Jaclyn must have misunderstood that they were to come back up to the arena and they had headed off down the trail.  I told Sarah come on we can catch up to them.  No sooner had we started down the trail when I told Sarah to go ahead of me that her horse preferred to lead and I would travel behind her.
After shouting to the others not to get too far ahead of us, they turned back as we had  planned and rode up the trail towards us.  I told Sarah to stop and we would wait for them.  Gallantly,  Leigh rode up on his horse with a wonderfully rehearsed speech and after both of them dismounting. He even dropped to one bare knee in the snow and proposed.

Sarah said "Yes" and the trail ride continued.

We had a wonderful trail ride despite the cool temperatures and even had a toast
to their engagement back at the tack room.
